More and more, in discussions with customers, I’m learning about the System i TOKOLOSHE.

It’s quite amazing what we learn on a daily basis, I was really shocked to hearnthat this particular TOKOLOSHE comes in the form of V7R1! A lot of the discussions are the same “we won’t upgrade to 7.1 because it’s not stable” – “we can’t upgrade straight from 5.4 to 7.1” and the best has got to be “I’ve bought a new Power7 and I’ve upgraded to 6.1”! Yip, you bought yourself a good looking Porsche, pity about the Volksie engine you put in. I’ve looked long and hard all over the internet (or for you TOKOLOSHE believers, the “interweb” )and can find nothing about 7.1 being unstable.

More to the point, I’ve found that every 7.1 upgrade I’ve done has gone just as smoothly as a well planned 6.1 upgrade. Yes, you can upgrade directly to 7.1 from 5.4, you follow the same procedure as upgrading to 6.1. Even IBM is recommending upgrading directly to 7.1 and skipping 6.1. And lastly, yes, you’ve got a fantastic Power 6+ or Power 7 box but you are not utilising the full potential of your hardware investment.

No technology refreshes for you, what are those, well, those are enhanced tune up’s for the actual engine and not the Volksie version. So next time your witchdoctor throws the bones for you, consider coming into the 21st century.

But for those of you who want to listen to the ‘spirits’, I’m selling TOKOLOSHE protection V1.1 for your System i. Two colours available, facebrick and concrete (commonly known as mampara), ironic isn’t it!

This is an interesting question. A new business is a lot like raising a child, one learns as you are going along and one makes mistakes along the way, there are constant surprises and frankly it can be really stressful and just darn hard work!

Then the second one comes along and all the dread that goes with it, starting over, late nights, cash flow, accounting systems, payroll, cups and saucers, office furniture…. all so daunting.!!
However, it has just seemed so much easier this second time round. Here we are, six months into the life of ANYKEY.

ANYKEY seems to be growing up much faster and more effortlessly. Of course the past lessons learned on the way have made a huge difference in birthing Anykey! The interesting thing has been that the tasks that one expected to be difficult have been easy and the expectedly easy tasks have been far more of a challenge.

Try getting a VAT number… that stretched my patience! The PAYE number also took an eternity! Getting a website up? After sitting down with a glass of wine and seeing the templates available I was quite convinced that I could manage this, (after all, I was a programmer once, and I’m not too bad at spotting a good design.) Well, that didn’t last long and I finally gave up and handed it to the professionals.

There is so much more to it than meets the eye! Needless to say, the learning curve has been fascinating! The new Anykey website is up and live www.anykey.co.za and we will be constantly adding to it and improving it and we welcome your feedback of course.

Getting company registration, name changes, BEE, bank accounts, PO Box set up, the cups and saucers, office furniture etc were in fact the easiest of all!

The best part of this has been the great camaraderie of the team! Everyone is equally committed to ANYKEY’s success and we are actually having FUN! Then of course, the fantastic response and support from our customers, you guys have been really great! Thank you so much! It makes going to work every day such a pleasure!

So what I can tell you is that Anykey is open for business, and we are loving every minute of it!
At six months, Anykey is sitting up and smiling, and loving the adventure of discovery.
Isn’t that so true about the second child! (They say that the third is even easier!!)
